In the Neurotrauma and Repair Laboratory, Dr. Morrison is studying (1) the biomechanics of traumatic brain injury (Kang and Morrison III 2014, Kang and Morrison III 2015) and (2) why brain cells die after a traumatic brain injury (Kang and Morrison III 2014, Kang and Morrison III 2015) and testing novel therapeutics to prevent posttraumatic cell death (Lamprecht and Morrison III 2014, Lamprecht and Morrison III 2015). With the knowledge that we gain, we hope to develop better protection strategies to prevent head injuries, to develop new therapies for treating head injuries, and to develop strategies to help repair the damage that does occur. We use primary rat models of traumatic brain injury and to a lesser degree mouse models. Upgrades to the animal facility will greatly benefit our research.
